Major Frustration

Hi everyone, I am always the one that reads all the posts, however, rarely asks anything. I am now so frustrated that I must ask for help. I am five weeks post op and the weight loss, in the past week, has barely happened. Maybe two pounds in the past week to nine days. I feel like I eat the minimum, exercise two to three times a week and drink continuously. When I read that people have lost 40 pounds in the first five weeks it blows me away. Have other people slowed down at times? What have you done about it? I read on the internet that some people put themselves on only protein drinks for the next week to "break the plateau" but I don't want to feel weak at work. What is the deal community ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Robyn

ROBYN....PLZ dont get frustrated....right now your body is catching up to the weight it just dropped quickly. It needs catch up time. USUALLY during this time you will melt inches that will suddenly show up on the scale. I would suggest to you that you USE a tape measure and watch the inches melt away also. ITS very motivating when the scale doesnt drop rapidly. A real stall or platau is no weight loss for 4 weeks so i wouldnt concern that your in a plateau. YOUR body is just catching up to the losses. BE strong I am going thru what you are right now being in my 5th week post op. I am dropping much slowly just now too. TAKE CARE! Relax! LISA

Robyn, I have to agree with Lisa, I am also holding these last 4 days.... I know I can not let this get to me and we are all different, it will start again because I am not eating that much so I know it has to move... Hang in there hun and we will help each other through this time...~hugs~ Take care Debra P

Robyn, Do not let this upset you! Think of it this way; You would not have lost as much as you did so fast if you did not have the surgery. Just keep making the right food choices and Exercise, even if you walk 10 min a day. Then all of a sudden the scale will start dropping, RAPIDLY! I am 3 months post op, with a 50 lbs loss. I lost 38 pounds in my first month, and only 12 in the last 2 months. I started to get upset and frustrated but realized my body is in shock from losing so much so fast and needs to catch up. Keep your chin up, as well as your protien and you will do GREAT!

Hi Robyn: Yes, I know what you mean. I am going on 9 weeks post op and I've lost 39 pounds and it seems as though I am slowing down to about a pound or two lost per week. Although it is frustrating for me too, I have to remember that 39 pounds is a lot and although I may not have lost as much as others, this is where it's at for me and my body. Initially I thought that I would be the only one who didn't lose weight from WLS, and that this would be just like everything else I've ever tried. Intellectually, I know that this WILL happen, but emotionally and psychologically, it's hard for me to accept because of all of the failed attemps in the past. Try to remember that this is basically a shock to our bodies. I know my stomach must be thinking, "What's going on...did someone cut her throat or something?" "Where's the food?" Last week I got so many headaches that I came to the conclusion that my body is actually experiencing a type of withdrawl from the long list of things I no longer consume. Just stick with the plan, drink your water, and exercise even a little and the pounds will come off. I'm learning to be more patient and more accepting of myself and more importantly, I try not to compare my weight loss with the weight loss of others, just because we are all so different. But at the end, we will reach our goals! Good luck and try not to be so hard on yourself...trust me, I know the feeling. Hang in there!! Karen
