Hi All, Well, I finally caved and went to talk to my PCP about the mood swings and depression. Don't know how anyone else is doing but I've felt like I've got PMS x 1000...Uber PMS! I can laugh now but in 10 minutes I could be in a rage about something. The doc gave me about a 3 mth supply of Zoloft to try. Kind of throw my stomach off but it's not been too bad....then again, it's only been two days. Does anyone have any experience with this? I read about increased thirst, diarrea, and possible weight loss as side effects. I'm going to watch all three very carefully. And yes, I'm looking into counseling. Don't know what's wrong...only thing I know is that I DON'T like it! As always, thanks for any advice. Deb

I boarded the crazy train when I was 19 and that bugger rolled faster every year and with the birth of each of my 3 children. I finally accepted drug therapy and have been taking lexapro for about 2.5 months.Just like zoloft it is a selective seratonin re-uptake inhibitor. It lets that brain chemical sick around long enough for you to have rational emotions. Without it depression sets in(in some people like me) and it can get out of control.I knew all the dysthemic ideas in my head were unrealistic and greatly exageratted, but I couldnt get any mental reliefe.I am pre-op and I feel much better. I read on another board many can continue taking it after wls w/out problems. Good luck

Deb, Give the zoloft at least two weeks to feel the effect. It takes time for any type of anti depressant to get fully into your system. Sometimes you have to try different medications to find the right one for you. I have dealt with Depression for all of my life, and have been on many different types that did not work for me, and finally Prozac Weekly was the perfect medication for me. Its tough having no control over your emotions, so try to understand that it will get better with counseling and the proper medication. I also think it is advisable to see a Psychiatrist that can properly medicate you. Most PCP's do not know how to persecribe anti depressants properly. Hope this helps!
