Insurance dilemma, I think

I don't know what the deal is with Oxford. I was told they were very good with their approval process, even with the lapband. But they've had my paperwork since at least 6/8 when they contacted my doctor for additional info., so everytime I call they tell me its "pending since 6/10". My case manager refuses to return phone calls apparently. I left her several messages. So I called again yesterday and a random phone person told me that the surgery was approved but the length of inpatient stay was pending. What the hell....he only requires ONE night stay for this surgery. I hope I get some kind of letter from them so I can relax about this and start worrying about the actual surgery! Anyone else run into this with Oxford? My surgery is 2 wks from Monday. -Dee

Hey Dee Sorry about the craziness, I don't have Oxford but I know people who had the lapband done and went home same day. I can't imagine it but maybe that is the problem. These insurance companies are crazy. Good Luck Tina

Hi Dee, I had Oxford when I had my surgery done and I had no problems with them. I let the doctor's office take care of everything. I just called Oxford to see if they covered the surgery and was told as long as it was medically necessary. Once my doctor and his assistant submitted my paperwork, I called my doctor's office to see if I had approval and was told not to worry about it because they work very closely with the case manager. My surgery date came and went and Oxford paid for everything. They are really good about approvals, just let the doctor's office handle it. Just concentrate on your upcoming surgery and make sure that you are prepared. Good luck and congratulations. Fran
