Question..help please
Hi all!!
Ok...well getting in protein has been hard...so far the shakes make me feel yucky, and I truly dont enjoy them. So...I've been branching out in the protein area. I'm 5 weeks post op...last night I made chicken soup in the crock pot. After about 3 bites I got a terrible feeling in my chest, and I got hot, and I thought I was going to get sick. Although, I know we arent supposed to drink, I felt like I should have a sip of water to flush in down.
My question is...the pressure lasted about 15 minutes...I did not get sick. Was the pressure because I didnt chew good enough, or eat to fast, or does chicken not agree with me? I'm afraid to eat chicken now. What do you think?
Thank you,
Janean
perhaps the soup had to much fat in it???? and that caused a slight dumping effect. I know we have to watch high fat items and soup can have that film of fat in it.
I wouldnt worry yet and try again. IT can also be eating to fast, not chewing something well very hard to name the culprit. I would just tryit again but at a slo pace chewing good to rule those out in case it happens again.

Sorry yo had to experience that horrible feeling of dumping, but yes it could be not chewing enough, eating to fast or chicken just didn't agree with your pouch today, that doesn't mean it wont tomorrow....
so please chew chew chew your food real good and take you your time eating try putting your spoon down in between bites and think mush so you will chew it well....
As for not getting in your protiens and not liking your drink, I use champion pure whey it is very good in taste, you can also try adding your protien powder in your yougurt, puddings, food, and anything you think will absorb the taste I hope this helps and good luck, don't forget to take your vitamins also and sip your water....
The chewing can be difficult to master cause we are so use to eating.....
Good luck sweeite

Janean,
Hun I had the same thing with a scrambled egg that I tried, the very first time I eat it, it was ok but the 2 days after I got the same thing you did and now I am scared to try the egg again but will after a couple more weeks....
Hang in here hun, this really is harder then I thought with knowing what and what not to eat...... They say it gets better, well I sure hope so...
Take care hun,

Hey Janean:
When I eat too fast or don't chew properly, I get the feeling that you described. Try taking smaller bites, chew at least 25 times and wait a bit in between swallows. Also, dark meat chicken goes down better than white meat for me at this point, so maybe you should try sticking to thighs and legs. That's what works for me.
Let us know how you make out.
Take care,
Karen

For the longest time I could NOT eat chicken. I would feel sick to my stomach or should I say pouch...run to the bathroom, never really but would eventually wind up in bed and sleep it off. Only recently am I able to eat chicken but not as much as I can eat beef. I find I have to stick to white meat only. Dark is too fatty for me to digest. To this day I still can't eat turkey. I would wait a bit and then try again. That is what my DR advised me to do. I would try like every 4 weeks or so, but your system may be different. Just remember, we are like babies, If something does not agree with us we try again another time. I wish I had never tried ice cream because now my pouch loves it. This is really the only thing I cheat with. Good luck and don't get sick LOL over this.
Hugs
