I started last night with a 8oz glass of diet pepsi. I am a month out of surgery. They said to wait a month. So i did. Is it a bad thing? Some people are saying it is. I have another question what is the normal weight loss for the first month and does it slow up. i am confused.. Roe

HI...well everyone surgeon advises them differetnly. I find no need for the soda being some say it bloats ur pouch and can stretch. I dont want to risk antyhing so best to keep the hec off it. THERE is also this new controversal article out this week about how drinking diet soda actaully feeds sugar cravings! GO figure.... as far as first month loosing i would love to hear what that is but were all different.....i guess age plays factors. I know i had surgery JUNE 1 and according to were i was last visit to surgeon and my scale now i am down 24 lbs and wednesday will be my 3 week marker. Is it good or bad im clueless. LISA PS: better to get some high protein drinks in then diet soda. I just ordered the fuzzy navel from bariatrics. com. I was given samples at my loca obeistyhelp.com support meeting and like it very much.

Diet soda is not good. Because of the fizz it can stretch the pouch.

I am approaching my 1 year anniversary soon and I have not had one drop of soda after my surgery. I think you should stay away from it, especially so soon; plus, I was also told by my surgey to avoid it as well. Sugar free iced tea, with low carbs or homemade iced tea/lemonade sweetned with Splenda is the better way to go. Stay away from the carbonated drinks if you can.

Hi, I am 13 months post-op and have had diet coke since about 9 months post-op. It is a myth that the carbination in soda will expand you pouch, it may tho give you quite alot of gas and may feel uncomfortable. Everyone's surgeon is different and you are best to follow his/her advise. Best wishes and as for the weight loss it also depends on the person. Teri 243/121

I was told I could have it only if I let it get flat. Actually after being away from it for awhile, the flat soda doesn't taste all that bad. 244/183/139

Hey Roe I was told that soda is a only if it is flat and decaf. I tried a sip, because I was craving and the bubbles were really uncomfy... so I learned my lesson I was told that the bubbles can stretch the pouch, even though Tooter said that it's not a proven fact and my surgeon said that caffeine wears away the little band they put around the pouch... I didnt even know that there was a band until he showed me what it looked like... funky little white thing that looks like velcro... Good Luck! Gia
