One Year Later...
Hola,
I don't often post to the NY board, but when I was pre-op, I found great information here and I just wanted to give a little back.
Last week, I had my one-year anniversary from my DS and I couldn't be happier. I've lost more than 100lbs, but more importantly, I feel like I am in control of my body for the first time ever. This really hit home for me last week: For those of you unfamiliar with the NYC subway system, there are a some stops where the local and express stops on different platforms. I was standing on the local platform when I noticed that the local train was pulling up to the express platform. In a split second, I decided to run for it. I ran down a flight of stairs, across the underpass and up a flight a stairs onto the train. I caught it!
Before my surgery, I never would have even attempted such a move. But now, I can do so many more things. I can spend six hours walking around a mall, I can lift weights, I can go anywhere and not worry about back pain. I am so grateful for having my health back.
For all of you pre-ops out there, keep fighting. This new life is so worth it!
Good luck!
