Newbie Seeking INfo

Hello, My name is Jasmin and I currently live in manhattan. Ummm I guess I should just give some quick background on myself. I am 24 years old and I weigh 350 pounds, I am 5'11 and my bmi is 48....Honestly I really really want to get the gastric bypass surgery since I feel that is the only way I can have somewhat of a long life but on my quest everywhere I turn I hit a road block..see all my doctors are recommending I get the wls because I have high blood pressure, hypothyroidism and joint pain and infflamation BUT when I call the numbers they give me ( to the other hospitals that do the surgery) I get stop in my tracks...see I have medicaid which I thought was not a problem but I am with a manged healthcare provider which is center care...The hospital told me that they accept medicaid but not any managed health plan...I figured ok I will just get off ot the managed health plan and stay with medicaid ( i thought it was easy since I did not even ask for center care it was just forced on me) when I call center care they tell me that I can not get out of the plan and that I am locked in...and basically there is nothing I can do about it.... Now this might sound sort of sappy but I want to live, i want to do things people my age do...I dont want to pop 4 to 6 pills a day like i do now...but I do not know what to do. Has anyone dealt with centercare and won....I guess I am looking for that silver lining ....my last hope....

Hi, Good luck in your search for a doctor that will help you. I'm 25 and my bmi is a bit less than yours... 5'9 here. I also feel like I want to do the things that other people my age are doing.

Thank you so much...Its weird sometimes because I act like I know what I am doing but I am so lost....I guess that is what happens when I get my hopes up high....too bad I heard from my hospital (bellevue) that dr. Dakin is one of the greatest doctors...and he could help....but I guess I am excluded because if the center care...

Hi Jasmine..... Just wanted to drop by and let you know that I understand you completely. I currently have medicaid, but with no managed care. I am seeing a doctor in Manhattan. He is a very good doctor and extremely thorough. I don't know if he will accept your health care plan, but I do know that he accepts so many different ones, so you might wanna give him a call. His name is Dr. Kini. He is at Mt. Sinai Hospital on 5th ave. I have a few numbers you might wanna try, as far as financial care goes. Thank you so much...If I knew about this medicaid stuff before I got into it...I sure I would Have saved myself from alot of headaches and long depressing nights of the " why o why o me syndrome" ...
