I am 55 years old and considering the surgery. Haven't made up my mind yet . However, one thing that I am concerned about is my age. Wondering if any of you out there are in your 50s having this done or had the surgery and what are your thoughts. Please help. Thank you. Rita Ann

Hi Rita Ann, While I'm not in my 50's, I don't see why that number should stop you from getting healthy and enjoying the benefits from losing the weight and feeling better about yourself. Will it take a bit longer to heal and get back into the swing of things? Maybe. But look at it this way... if you don't have the surgery, in 2 yrs you are still going to struggling with your weight and the problems associated with it. The surgery itself is a risk but so is pretty much anything in life worth having... from love to having a baby. Why don't you talk to your doctor and see what he/she has to say about your health and what kind of a recovery time you would be looking at. Then do what is right for you.. but don't not look into this just because you are in your 50's.. afterall, with God's blessings you will still be alive and kicking 30 yrs from now. Good luck to you, Rita Ann!! Hugs, Lisa

Thank you for your response. I have never had surgery and adding the age it does concern me . I have a Doctor's appointment with my regular Doctor to discuss this further with him this month. Last year we talked about this but I decided to try and lose weight again. And again that has failed . Did really good first 6 months and now I'm back on the up swing of the weight scale. I do have an appointment in July with a surgeon in rochester but have decided that I need to get a surgeon closer to home. That is over 3 hours away. There is an excellent Doctor in Buffalo and even closer I have heard that Hamot in Erie, PA has a great program . I am going to continue to research and make a decision by the end of summer as to whether or not this is good for me. Again, thank you for your response and words of wisdom. Rita Ann

Rita Ann Hi! Welcome to the board. I am 58 years old and can hardly wait to have this surgery. At present, I am waiting for approval from the insurance company again. I was scheduled for 3/17, but due to my husband retiring, our insurance company was changed. I just finished a 3 month nutrition and exercise program. During your research, highlight the names of the people who post questions or answers and read the profiles. Also, read the posts here. You will be amazed about all of the information you can gather here. Also, ask questions here. Everyone is wonderful about sharing answers. Good Luck in your research and future decision to begin a new, healthy life. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda
