Sorry for the graphic title, but I am exactly 1 month post op, and I have been sooooo constipated that I want to rip my eyeballs out!! I normally have a slight problen in this area, but now with all the proteins I'm eating, I am really having a hard time (no pun intended). My surgeons office said to take Milk of Magnesia and suppositories in addition to Benefiber. The suppositories and an enema were the only things that worked, but now I'm having continuing to have the problem with the suppositories too! I switched to Metamucil because in the past I have had the most success with that, and I've also had the herbal tea, Smooth Move (no kidding, that's the name) and it also worked well, but there was some cramping. I would try it, but I'm not too sure about what it will do to me. Does anyone else out there have any suggestions? Also I went back to work last week and I was exhausted...felt like I got hit by a truck! When does all this energy begin to happen? Thanks in advance for your responses, Karen

Hi Karen. I have lived with your particular problem for a long time because of the pain meds that I am on. After not aggressively seeking out a solution I ended up with an anal fissure from pushing so hard cuz of the constipation. The doctor who took care of my fissure put me on a prescription stool softner/laxative. It's called Miralax and it really does work. Ask your PCP about it (or your bariatric surgeon) and find out if it is for you. It took a couple of days to work but afterwards ... what a relief!!! The stuff has no taste and doesn't make anything thick or gritty. You can mix it into anything and it doesn't alter the flavor at all and best of all if you have a prescription card, it is normally covered by insurance! Those otc fiber meds can be really pricey. Good luck to you and keep your chin up -- the energy you're waiting for is on its way!! Hugs, Lisa

Hey Karen I've been using a tsp of sf benefiber in my morning tea or coffee every day and it definately works... Not a day goes by that I dont use it... It melts instantly and is not gritty and you cant taste it! Good Luck! Gia

Hi Gia: Thanks for your response, but Benefiber doesn't do a thing for me. I think I'm going to get that prescription for the Miralax! Take care, Karen

Karen, Sorry to hear you're having this aweful problem! I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions because I'm not experiencing this. I've been wondering how you're doing since I haven't seen anything from you lately! Remember we had our surgeries on the same day? I'm doing pretty good. Down 76 lbs! (that includes to 42 pre op). Still having some issues w/ keeping food down but it's getting better slowly. Take care! Barb 342/266/hoping for 160
