My name is Debbie, and I was scheduled to have the gastric bypass in august of 04. about 2 weeks before the surgery, i must have had cold feet really bad, because I ended up cancelling the surgery. About 6 months ago my best friend had the lap band done, and she is doing great with it. I really need to get this done for myself and to have a more better quality of life. I have all of my approvals, I am just not sure on which surgery to get done. Can anybody suggest anything to me, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Debbie I decided on the RNY because I was a total sweets eater and I knew that the band would not work for me. Just my two cents. Good Luck Tina

Hiya Debra, I had RNY for similar reasons as Tina - I am addicted to sugar, and carbs. I know that if I had the lap band I would still be eating chocolate. In the past I would consume all the chocolate I had. If I had a small bag of M&M's I would eat that. If I had the 1 lb bag I would eat that. There is no reason for me to think that I would be any different with the lap band - it would just take me longer to eat it all. So, seeing this as my last attempt to lose weight and be healthy I opted for the RNY. I pray that you will have wisdom and discernment as you make this important decision! God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea

Hey there Debbie, Good luck in making your decision. Personally, I went with the RNY. I based my decision on what the surgeon recommended. Call me indecisive if you want, but I felt more comfortable with his professional opinion than with mine or any other post-op. Keep us informed. Hugs*Kisses, Mare

Hi Deb.....there's good and bad to both surgeries....but the choice is totally personal. Every person on this board has a reason why they chose they're specific surgery. Do your homework and don't compare yourself to others Do what you feel is the BEST choice for yourself! Jane aka The LI Princess 288/173/145 in 2005 is the goal -115 lbs

Hey Debbie, GO FOR IT!!! You will not regret it at all. I had the Lap band surgery done April 13th and I am pretty much back to normal. I was out of work only 5 days. I didn't even stay overnight in the hospital. It isn't easy but everyday gets better and better. I am done 30 pounds, I feel good. I had my surgery with Dr. Kwon at Bon Secur Hospital, he is from Port Jervis. If you are really unsure, go to a local support group, listen to the people that have already had it down. I know that the support group really helped me finalize my decision. I got to sit and talk with a great bunch of people who already had the surgery. You get to hear what there experence was. It helps. I still go to the support groups, it is good to go and see what everyone else is doing. Plus, if you have a question on food or something, usually they can help you. Let me know what you decide. Gwen

Hey Deb, I am working on getting approved for the RNY procedure. I chose this procedure because of the many stories I heard of people getting the band having to go back in for a second surgery to get the RNY done simply because the Band failed. I am not a fan of doctors let alone surgery. I don't want to end up under the knife a second time if I can avoid it. Read all you can about both procedures and their success rates, then make a decision for yourself. You have to go with what you are comfortable with. Enzo-

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS. WHERE IN WESTBURY ARE YOU. I WORK IN WESTBURY. THAT IS A SMALL WORLD. ANYWAY I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT IN 2 WEEKS WITH THE SURGEON. I WILL THEN MAKE MY DECISION. THANK YOU

Hi Debbie, this is a big decision for you. I had initially decided on the Lap Band, but after meting with the surgeon and completing my research I thought that the RNY would best serve my needs. It had a higher success rate over a span of years. I am also like some folks with the sugar and carb thing, and believe me the RNY side effect of dumping has helped me to stay focused. Thus far I have been doing well, and if I had to make this decision again, I would make the same exact decision. Good Luck
