Got A disability question??
Hi Tara,
I get short-term disability at my job, I got all the paperwork, filled out my parts then I will bring it to my surgeon and he fills out his then I can fax or hand deliver to my job so the Payroll lady fills out the company's part. We only receive $150 a week,so I had to make sure I had enough Paid Time Off on the books to help beef up my check to a full one. My surgeon requires a minimum of 6 weeks out. She also told me there would be a 1 week waiting period. Hope I helped ya--Robin
Thanks for the info, but I have one more question...do you know if the check came from your insurance company or your employer?
And thats a great idea to save up days to make a full check.
I know that she has vacation twice a year and gets "sick" time. Who knows...
She still isnt sure that she is getting the surgery, but she is looking into everything and had an appointment set up with the Dr in July for her first consult.
So thanks again for the info.
Tara
Hi Tara (my surgery date twin), I was denied short term disability by Guardian who is the company my job uses for disability. I am going to appeal it, I'm not sure what kind of luck I will have though. They said it was not due to an illness or injury. I've been back to work since April11th and I just got the letter last week. 1st they had lost my paperwork, I got a second set , then they needed something else from my surgeon and then they denied me. My surgeon's office said they usually do not hear of any one getting denied so maybe your mom will have better luck than me unless she has Guardian.
AWW...I am a twin!! lol
Thats great...I checked out your profile and was looking to see if we are running about the same, but it doesnt show an update so feel free to emial me how you are doing..hint hint...lol
Anyway back to the question at hand. I am not sure who she has for the disability ins, but I know that she has bc/bs excellus for her health ins. I see that you went back to work after one month...thats good to know.
Thanks for all your info I know that it will help!
Tara
Tara, this is something that varies depending on where your mom works, what type of benefit package her employer offers, etc.
Some folks don't get disability insurance. Some do. I work for a large Human Resource consulting firm who pays out short-term disability for 12 weeks at full pay. After that, long-term disability pays 60% for anothe 12 weeks (unless you as the employee pays into your LTD plan, in which case you can get paid up to 80%).
She should check with the Benefits Administrator at her job to find out their benefit plan first.
As far as this type of surgery being covered, my surgeon's office did not say specifically that it was weight loss surgery. What they said is that it was abdominal surgery or something to that effect.
Anyway, while out on disability, the insurance company paid my salary for 6 weeks. Then I went back to being on payroll with no break.
Good luck to your mom!
what a positive situation! I will be sure to pass along the info. I just really hope that they are willingto do something for her. She is actually worried about being fired while she is out. He boss is a real JERK. But I am sure there are things that she can do to sucure her position.
She is the assistant manager for a housing development. I am sure that she can find out who to talk to without having to deal so much with the jerk.
thanks again for you info!!
