Hey All....... I haven't posted in a while. Been running like a chicken without my head trying to get everything in order so I can get a surgery date. At times it seems like it will never happen, but I know as long as I have faith things will get rolling right along. Well, here's my question. I have an appt. to have an endoscopy with biopsy done. What in the world is it, what does it involve, does it hurt?????? I am so clueless right now, and so scared. I am looking for anyone who's had this done to explain the procedure and it's step by steps.......... Thanks Blanquie

Hello Blanca. I have had them a few times,I have GERD(gastro esophogeal reflux disease) the tests are usually done to see if you have gerd(severe heartburn)or ulcers or maybe even hiatal hernias. Nothing to be afraid of it is over in no time and doesn't hurt at all. they knock you out and and send a tube with a camera down your throat and into your stomach and even to the beginning of your intestines I believe, over in a matter of ten minutes maybe less, hope that helps--Robin

Hello Robin, Thanks so much for your info. I am so happy to know that 1, they put you under, and 2, it doesn't hurt. You have no clue how happy that makes me... Thanks again Blanquie

Blanca, it actually sounds worse than it is and it is over so quickly, it will surprise you. I think it took me about 10 - 15 minutes if that. I had 2 endoscopies - one pre-op and one post-op. Neither one hurt. But I was not completely knocked out. I was really close to being out but not totally. Or it could have been that the anesthesia really doesn't last long because the procedure doesn't either. I'm not certain but I do know that I felt no pain whatsoever and it enabled them to find out what was going on in my stomach and the beginning of my intestines. If you are still uncertain, ask the gastroenterologist to explain the procedure to you before he begins. Any good doctor should do that anyway. Good luck!

Hello, I had one done recently. I was so worried for nothing. They just sedate you a little. I told them I had Sleep apnea so they didnt put me under. The hole process is 10 minutes. They put a camera down your throat and check your stomach and throat. It is quick and painless
