My first 5K

Hi everyone, I ran my first 5K yesterday - a memorial run for a firefighter who died on 9/11. I am happy with what I did - I finished it in 34.30. A little slower than my normal 33.30 but I usually run on a flat track and this was in a neighborhood with some inclines. Plus a 5K is slightly more than the 3 miles I usually do at the track. So that being said I am more than happy with my time. I had set out to do it in under 35 minutes and I did - yay me! LOL The stats have come in already and I came in number 425 in a field of 808. Out of 382 females who entered, I came in 144. Out of the 72 females in my age group I came in 36th. I averaged 11:07 per mile. I am feeling pretty darn good about all this! :D God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea 223/137/123

Hiya Andrea, First off let me just say it feels a little funny replying to you - a little like talking to myself . My husband is a runner and does well in all the races, always placing in the top 3 in his age group and sometimes even the top 3 overall finishers. A year ago I never could have imagined running in a race (not that I could keep up with him, his average mile is like 5:30 and mine was 11:07 - so maybe I could keep up with him if he walked!!) but it is neat that it is something we can do together - the commraderie and everything after the races. I am sure that if it is something you want to do, in time you will do it! I had to take it VERY slow in the beginning. I started on my elliptical in December only doing 10 minutes. I added one minute a day until I was up to 30 minutes. I did it about 3 times per week. In March I started running and I ran 2 miles in 30 minutes. I ran at the track and every few runs I added another lap until I was doing 3 miles which is what I do now. So thats my story and if I can do it - probably anyone can!! LOL God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea

Hiya Brenny, Thank you. I am sure that you can do it by next May. Your surgery is in July and then you can start your training off slowly and carefully and build up in plenty of time to run next May! I am looking forward to hearing about your race results! God bless you and keep you, ~Andrea
