Food issues!
Karry,
I just want to {{hug}} you and say thank you! You are the one who gave me the most sensible advice w/out jumping down my throat for making mistakes! I've been following my dr list but not everything is agreeing with me. No hot dogs are not on it but I found I can eat those kinda on accident. I was at my son's baseball game and it was late and I hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast which I also know is bad.
I'm going to stick to the foods I know I can tolerate and purchase some protein shakes to keep up my protein intake.
Thanks again and take care!

No problem Barb...
Thats what we are all here for....is to help each other out!! I also couldn't eat nor did I like everything on my doc'c list. I ate what I liked and what I could tolerate....I also was told no to soups as a meal...if I want soup now I eat it before eating as it is to much liquid to be considered a meal.....also watch soups because the are LOADED with carbs and salt!!! I find now at 6 months I eat high protien, low carb. I have some carbs but not much. Now that summer is coming lots of fresh fruits and veggies are the best!!! Good Luck and take care.....

Hi Barb,
I had Dr Graber. I go to the support groups, I have gotten alot of ideas from other patients. Just keep trying, some times what you can't eat today you can the next time. And just remember when a certain food does not agree with you think back did I eat too fast, did I chew enough, and did I eat too much. I have found since my surgery that over half of the times that I have been sick were due to one of the above questions that I asked myself. It is alot of trial and error, and for me at all most 2 years out it still is different each time I eat something. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask, I know some of the best help (other than my Dr's office) was from other post op patients, some times they were even better because they don't beat arround the bush they will tell you exactly how something did or did not work for them.

Hi Barb, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time I see it has been said already by our AMOS Family to call you DR. So I guess I don't have to tell you that Well my other suggestion would be that maybe you should go back to the basics ya know what I mean? I know for me when I wasn't feeling too good either that is what I did. I hope you feel better really soon Barb. {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}} Please keep us posted on how you are doing and if there is anything I can do to help just me and I will do my best in whatever you need...ok. Have a great day and weekend!!!!!!!

Barb, first of all congratulations and welcome to the "other side".
Secondly, as you can see from the varied responses, every patient and every doctor is different. Some doctors keep a patient on liquids for longer than others. Some are more or less aggressive about introducing certain foods back into your diet.
I believe you should TRY YOUR BEST to follow the guidelines that your surgeon or your nutritionist provided for you - however, you will find (obviously) that everything that is on that list will not agree with you. It happens to many folks. Your pouch is very individual and certain things it just may not like and other things it just may not be ready for.
It's very easy to get bored with foods at this early stage and to get frustrated as well. Vomitting can often just be a side effect of the surgery this early on. If you couldn't hold down ANYTHING, I'd be more concerned and would suggest that you have your surgeon take another look at you and make sure you weren't having any gastro-intestinal problems. But since there are some foods you can tolerate, you should stick with those that are easy for you to digest and give yourself more time. You will eventually be able to slowly incorporate more varieties of foods into your diet over time but you shouldn't push yourself too much too fast. Still, there are some foods you may never be able to tolerate too well again and unfortunately that is just a by-product of this surgery.
It's common this early out to be concerned with what you are eating, whether you are "doing it right", etc. All post-ops go through this to some degree or the other so you are so not alone. I would suggest that you supplement your meals with protein drinks that have QUALITY protein that your stomach can tolerate. Also do not slack on the vitamin regime. It's very important.
All the best to you. I am confident that you will come along just fine.
