Food issues!
It's been two weeks today since I had my surgery and it seems like I can't keep anything down. I 've tried egg salad, scrambled eggbeaters, turkey breast, ravoli (small ones) w/o sauce, and now tuna. It seems like I more up than I'm taking in! The only 4 things I've found that stay down is cottage cheese, applesauce, bananas and hot dogs. Any ideas?

Hey Barbara:
We had our surgery on the same date and I have to say that I have not encountered any vomiting-just get very full, very fast. They say that we
all have different tolerance levels when it comes to this, but have you tried going to bariatric eating.com? Susan Maria's book gave me some alternatives which gave me a little more variety. She also has protein shakes called Nectar and these are really good 23g of protein, no carbs, no chalky flavor. I have Peach fuzzy navel and it tastes surprizingly good.
Have you tried shrimp or scallops? Most seafood works well for me, although I have to say, even though I haven't tuna is the least palatable for me.
Hang in there,
Karen
p.s. You're down to 277 already?? Wow, that's amazing!! I thought my 16lbs was something. You go girl!
Karen,
Thanks for your suggestions! I have been to Bariatriceating.com and I saw some good ideas. I have decided to purchase some protein shakes as I've very concerned about my protein intake.
It's nice to see we both made it through our surgeries just fine! Thank the Lord!
The reason I'm down 67 lbs (as of today) is I had to lose 40 lbs pre op! But I FEEL GREAT!!!! I actually put on a size 26 jeans today and they are NOT stretch!!!! I actually cried when I put them on! I was in a 30/32 for the last five years.
Take care!

Did your Dr give you a list of items that you can have at this point? I know mine did not allow eggs until after my 3 week check up. Hot dogs and turdey were at about 2 months. I still to this day at allmost 2 years post op have trouble with hot dogs and certain meats. I had my surgery at St Lukes in Utica.

Betty Jo,
Yes Dr Graniero did give me a list of foods that I can have and eggs are on it. Unfornately, some of the items are not agreeing w/ me. I'm concerned about my protein intake because I know I'm not getting enough. I've decided to purchase some protein shakes and give that a try.
Who did your surgery?
Take care,
Barb

HI, When I was two weeks Post op all I was allowed to eat was a liquid diet. My dr gave me a list of all the foods that I was allowed. I mostly ate low carb yogurt, creamed soups, applesauce,sf ice pops,sf ff pudding,sf jello. Your pouch is still healing. It's like a newborn baby eating for the first time. If fact you may find out in time that the things you once loved you can no longer stand and things you hated all of a sudden you love. It's like starting all over again. Good luck.
God Bless,

At 2 weeks post op I was on a puree diet...everything had to be in a blender or in that consistency....Applesauce, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, etc...I had a REALLY hard time with meats for a while...and as far as hot dogs go, I still haven't had a hot dog and I'm 6 months post-op. Your pouch is very small and it sounds to me like you are either putting in to harsh of foods or your eating it to quickly or your not chewing your food well. These pointers decide for me everyday whether or not my food will sit well in my pouch. If I eat to fast it comes up...If I don't chew it good enough it comes up....So try eating more of a mushier textured food for a while, make sure you get in your protiens and vitamns and drink your water. Always ask your doc first though if you seem to be having any real problems. Good Luck and take care...
