Newbie & questions regarding Surgeons and Guardian PHS insurance

Hi all, I've been lurking on your site and thought I might as well introduce myself! I'm a 41 yr. old mom of a 4 yr. old boy with autism. In the past few years I've put up quite a bit of weight (about 80 lbs.). I've tried it ALL - drugs, diets, the works. Can't say if it's just that my life's got so complicated with my son's disability and all, I guess I've been comforting myself with food. Anyway, I will be attending the "seminar" at Columbia Presbyterian tomorrow, as I'm considering doing the Lap Band. Does anybody have any advice or opinions regarding Dr. Mark Bessler and the hospital? I also want to call Mt. Sinai and maybe Cornell's obesity surgery clinics. Any experience with these or other surgeons in Manhattan? Finally, has anybody been able to get Guardian PHS to pay for the surgery? I've developed high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and asthma since gaining so much weight. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and hope to get to know you all. Miss Emm

Hi , my sister had her wls done with Dr Bessler at Columbia and she says he is the best and so was her stay at the hospital. She is two years out and has lost 180lbs.
