I just got a letter back from Upstate Medical Center that says that beginning 1/1/2005 University Hospital's contract with MVP excludes bariatric surgery. What do I do now?

Theresa Who is your physician? I also had MVP insurance and thank god I started my process last year and they had accepted the people already regularly being seen. I am thankful for that. I know that Community is also doing this surgery in Syracuse, I do not know any physicians there. I wish you the best. Debbie

I was just beginning the process. I did find one other member who has MVP who got surgery recently so I don't know. I have researched other docs in my area and felt this offered the best overall program. Before I applied I did call MVP to ask if this was covered, checked their website for covered providers etc. UGH I hate having to start over. I am frustrated that after 4 years of thinking about this, researching problems, concerns etc. Trying two different commercial weight loss programs to help, my pcp is not helpful and if anything dismissive about wls. Uphill battle and I won't quit. I just need to figure a way around, through or over this obstacle.

They also told me that the reason they are not taking it anymore is because MVP's reimbursement rate is way to low. They say they are losing money.

Dr. William O'Malley in Rochester just recently became certified to accept MVP, I was just denied by MVP, but if I lose 5% of weight they should approve me. There are 2 Drs. in the Utica area Dr. Graber & DR. Graniero that I understand accepts MVP and there wait time for surgery may be shorter than O'Malleys
