Questions ~ Upstate NY
Hello all. I'm 22 and weigh over 300 lbs. I have been considering WLS for over a year now and went so far as the check out some doctors at Albany Med. I didn't really like what I found. Recently a friend told me about Dr. Lirio. I was wondering if anyone from Upstate could give me information about him and his program. I really want this to happen. I am going away for a month and a half this summer and want to know if I should contact him and try to start before I leave or after I get back. Thank you so much I really appreciate it!
Rebekah
Rebekah,
I am curious what you didn't like about Dr's at Albany Med??? Both Dr. Singh & Dr. Rosati do surgeries there. Rosati does open only and Singh does both Lapriscopic & open, he also does banding.
Dr. Singh also works out of St. Peters.
I recommend you stop by a support group at St. Peters (for both surgeons) any Tuesday evening 5-7pm. It is located off the cafetaria (in the dr's cafetaria).
Great to have you join us and you would be able to meet a lot of people who have had Singh or Rosati. We always welcome questions and are a VERY OPEN group. We discuss anything and everything.
I wish you luck and success on your journey.

I had a terrible experience with Singh's practice. Not only were they rude but they were very difficult to work with. I went to the seminar to get the packet. You are on your own to comply with every request. I am a profesor andonly have limited time in the summer - I had an ulcer ...Had to begin again- To make a long story short they refused to update my packet by giving me any new information on 'what other nutritionists they accept' since I am well outside Albany, refused to explain what they wanted to Albany Cardiology then threatened to deny me my well awaited apoointment with the practice should I have chosen the 'wrong psychologist' or nutritionist which they would not give me a list of- AS A DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY I asked a freind to make a call for me and was told that 'the weight loss pateients are medicaid and lower socioenconomic 'misfits' and jumping through hoops is their way of separating the serious ones formthe non serious ones. I was SHOCKED! They re the rudest! sign me Dr. D. M. Happer
Rebekah, Im sorry to hear that you didnt care for the doctors at Albany Med. Both myself and my daughter are going to be having WLS with Dr. Singh in the future. Currently we both attend support group meetings on Thursday evenings. If you would like, show up at Albany Med for a support group meeting. Its from 6pm-8pm on Thursday evenings.
Im sure that you could get any questions answered that you have. I do have one friend who had her surgery with Dr. Lirio and she said he was fine.
Dr. Singh and Dr. Rosatti are wonderful kind doctors. Whoever your choice of surgeon will be, make sure you do your homework. There are three prerequisites for having WLS at Albany Med.
1: You must lose 10% of your body weight in order to have surgery.
2: You must attend at least 2 support group meetings.
3: You MUST educate yourself of all the pros and cons of having WLS.
This is not a quick fix by any means. WLS is a tool that will help you on your journey.
Do whats best for you Rebekah and I hope to see you on the losing side one day!
Good luck!
Laurie
