EATING. Surgery is 3 weeks away and my pre-op testing is 2. I must have that "last supper syndrome". I need to stop but having a hard time. I'm afraid that I will have gained too much weight and my surgeon will postpone surgery. That should be reason enough to start getting my a$$ in gear, huh? Any advice? Thanks!

oh my god!! Me Three!! my surgery date is May 23, and I've been eating like I'm going to jail, (as my mom would say). I've read of quite a few dr.'s that put their patients on a liquid diet a few weeks before the surgery to make the surgery go easier....has something to do with a fatty liver. Well, I keep picturing my liver with all these big fat bubbles...weird?...I need to stop, or I will have no clothes to wear for the next couple of weeks. Janean

hi ladies, the problem is that ur thinking about no being able to eat all those things ur eating now again. my friend has her surgery monday and she had that kind of food withdrawl before the withdrawl that ur having now. u will be ok........but let me just say i dont know what type of surgery ur having meaning lap band, open or regular laparscopic, but i know if u gain a certain amount of weight u will have to have the open so unless ur getting that cut already i suggest u dont look at it like its ur last supper.. i'm waiting to have the surgery to and i'm scared to pig out because i dont want that cut.

Janet , Hi and good luck with your upcoming surgery. What you are going through is very normal. I did the same thing, except it made my blood sugars very high. I was so bad We are all human. I am sure in 3 weeks you aren't going to gain too much weight. Keep us posted on your surgery. Good Luck and soon we will see you on the losing side. Lorraine

i ate like i was going to the chair and the fact remains is that i lost a lb the day of surgery my doctor makes you have liquids the day before surgery no food only clear fluids.. his advice was not to gain but said nothing about canceling the surgery if you did.... the three nights before i ate at my favorite resturaunts and ate foods i didnt think i would be able to tolerate after surgery like sushi and kosher deli.... anyway i cant see him canceling but remember get the most out of this surgery in the first 6 months cause then the honeymoon is over and the weight comes off slower develop good eating habits the day out of surgery and you all will be fine ..... good luck to all of you and i cant wait to see all of you on the losers side...... I gather this is the REASON my surgeon requires I loose weight before surgery so that i dont fall into that eating syndrome that I know i can fall into like you gals. My surgeon feels im less risk for complications if im loosing...in the last week since i last so him...i lost 11 lbs....(12 lbs prior to that). I am focusing so hard on the weight loss requirement im not nervous yet or gaining which i know i can! TRY to get control for the safety of your surgery. My doctor believes in loosing before to keep the liver out of the path of surgery! LISA

Hi Janet, I did the same thing! I ate my way from one end of Long Island to the other. It was like a sickness...I planned which restaurants we would hit each weekend..all my favs from lobster to spare ribs. I gained about 15 lbs in the last few months. NOT GOOD! It's another 15 I have to lose now. Luckily my surgeon didn't cancel on me. Don't worry Janet, we've all been there. It's a beautiful thing when you are post op...and you can feel the food obsession finally being lifted for the 1st time ever. I wish you all the best! Gail
