Hey guys can you me? I have some questions and I have nobody to really answer so.. hehe Ok. I'm 5 days post op, almost six and I'm still walking around slumped over like a old lady. And when I try to stand up straight it's really hard. Is this normal? If yes, when does it normally end? When did you guys get to finally sleep on your side? This one is a big deal because..my back is KILLING me. I can't sleep on my back anymore it's so sore. Those are really the only two..things are fine. I've lost 15 pounds now! Go me! Woohoo.

Hi Melissa WOW....15 already....you go woman !!! As far as your questions, I was able to sleep on my side in the hospital.....BUTTTTTT each person is different !! Some ppls pain is more than the next.......truely I was blessed. And the walking bent over issue...........it could be gas...it settles in all different parts of ur body....not just your stomach !!....I know after my gall bladder a few weeks ago..the gases settled in my arm..it was sooooo painful for DAYSSS it hurt worse than the surgery itself....for over a week at least. It soon was better tho......If the pain keeps up....call your Dr........They dont mind all the questions......after all..thats what they are there for !! Get lots of rest...and make sure you drink lots.....sippp sippp sipp.... Hope you get to feeling better SOON !! Love 2 Ya ! Brenny

Hi Melissa, congrats on the 15 pounds. As for the walking over hunched, didn't happen to me, but the 1st time that I had surgery on my stomach, I DIDNT want to walk straight it was so uncomfortable. All I did was use a heating pad to ease the muscles and then slowly start to stretch them back out. I know that it is painful and I feel for you! I was also able to sleep on my side while I was still in the hospital... I had to because with my sleep apnea I never could sleep on my back. My suggestion would be to call your Dr to see if he will allow you to soak in a hot soothing tub or if he can recommend some exercises for you. I wish you luck babes. Keep us posted. Hey Melissa Congratulations to you on the 15 lbs like Brenny said everyone is different. The healing takes time as we all know but it is up to your body to decided when it's going to feel better. I didn't have the problem with the hunching over, but I did with sleeping on my side it was so hard I had to use a pillow wedged like behind my back and one in front to get comfortable that way. It will pass believe me. I know it seems like forever but it will be a distant memory before you know it. Keep up the great work! Have a great day and feel beeter. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} Evelyn 247/134/past goal and feeling GREAT!!!!!!!

hi melissa- sorry you aren't feeling so great. i had an open rny and couldn't stand straight till 2 + weeks post - op.my pain was so bad i had to walk with a cane. my advise to you is walk as much as possible, it really does help. you could probably sleep on your side now. just prop yourself up with pillows you should be fine. congrats on losing 15 pounds!!!! donna open rny mar 18 2003 282/140/135

I agree with what Brenny said about the gas.... I wasn't able to sleep on my side for about 4 weeks and I had to put a pillow on the side to hold up my belly... it did easy up but I still have a struggle to get comfortable on my stomach and side....give it time you were just born 6 days ago... and you have to learn to walk before you can run Congratulations 15 pounds you are off to a great start....keep up the good work Christine

Melissa Congratulations on the 15lbs. That is awesome. I am still pre-op working on my 3 month supervised program, but I had been scheduled for 3/17 which was cancelled 3/14 and at that time, I purchased a body pillow to use for support so I could lay on my side after surgery. I know after my gallbladder surgery over 32 years ago, I slept on my side in less than a week and my incision is the same as for open RNY. I walked bent over for about a week and a half, but like the others said, everyone is different. Good luck and I hope you find a solution to your sleeping on your side. Have a great day! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. {{{HUGS}}} Brenda
