i am just starting i want to have laper scoopic but was told no i have a bmi of 47 so i was crushed. i am so scared of the scar i am young and really do not want it he might do if i lose 20 pounds , it took me so much to lose 5 pound i do not think i can lose 20. i would join a gym but on a fix income of two people working i can't afford it what do i do

Margarett, Welcome hun....~hug~ I am not sure why your Dr will not do the lap with a BMI of 47, but he does do others lap? I weigh 275 with a BMI of 54.5 and I will be having the lap done. I wish you luck hun, I know losing any weight is a struggle for most of us here, that is why we have chosen to have the surgery..... Best of luck hun and keep us posted..... Debra P

I had lap with a BMI of 50. You might want to look into how many surgeries this doctor has performed. A good surgeon that has done alot of these can do lap with a BMI like that. Good Luck. Eileen

Marg, You really need so speak to other doctors. From everything I have read about the WLS procedures, your BMI by itself should not dictate weather your surgery should be done Lap or Open. Please for your own good consult with other surgeons. Enzo-
