boss/upset re: surgery
Karen,
I work for a huge catering hall, and this is our busy season. (probably why she is upset)....I am human resources and I do the payroll. No one else knows or is trusted to do the payroll...so I guess she reacted because of that.
I know the laws, and I'm having this surgery, and if I get mad enough, not only will I take 3 weeks, but mayber 6 weeks on disability.
I really didnt want to do that, and I probably wont...but I need to have this surgery for me.
Janean
Hey Janean:
Well you go girl!! It's important that we take care of ourselves no matter what, and it sounds like you know exactly what you want and how to get it!
Maybe your supervisor should think about training someone else to do the payroll in addition to you. I am a supervisor and my staff is empowered enough to "step up" in my absence, which is what they are going to do next week (my surgery date is May 5th). I guess it's how you treat people, we all work together as equals to work towards a common goal (I'm a program director and I work with high school and college students) and I am confident that the work will get accomplished, with or without me.
I'm sure you will do what you need to do and hopefully your boss will "get a grip".
Wishing you all the best!!
Karen
Janean,
I haven't told my boss yet and I am extremely scared about what her reaction is going to be!!
Plus, I JUST STARTED this job last week - and my surgery will probably be in June or July (I see my surgeon on May 18th to schedule). So, being so new and having to take off right away probably won't look too good.
The only good thing is that I found out SHE had gastric bypass surgery about 3 years ago. So, I at least know she could be more sympathetic than other bosses. BUT, she's still a BOSS...and she'll probably be irritated to have a new person out on medical leave so soon.
:::sigh:::
I have to tell her soon though.
Lisa,
Just a note, you are not required to tell your boss WHY you are having surgery. Just tell her that it is medically necessary that you have surgery and that it is of a private nature. If she wants a doctor's note, I am sure your surgeon will be happy to write that for you as well.
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea
i'm so sorry you were treated this way. i never told my boss i was having wls, because i probably would of had the received the same reaction you experienced. my pcp wrote a letter to my company's hr department and wrote down hernia repair (which was also done), and made no mention of wls. had my company known the truth i'm sure i would have lost my job. sad but true. just so you know legally you don't have to tell your company what medical procedure you are going to have.
your boss really over step the boundary when she told you you were out of your mind to have a bypass. forget what your boss said, you have to do what's best for you.
best wishes,
donna
