Hello NY'ers. Hope everyone is just doing fine this wonderful sunny morning. I have a question regarding energy levels. I'm 3 weeks post op. I'm still not feeling an increase in energy. Can you post ops give me an idea when you felt that you started to feel that increase in energy? I'm hoping it will be soon but realize that my body is going through major stuff and I have to be patient. I'm back to work next week and my hubby is leaving town for 9 days. I have 2 small children and 3 pets. I'm hoping I can keep up.

Hi Dawn! Congrats and welcome to the Losing Side! At 3 weeks post op, I was still very tired, or I'd have a burst of energy, do too much, and then be exhausted. It was *so frustrating. I think for me, once I got in enough protein & fluids (that was the hardest part for me), the energy just kind of creeped up on me, and now I walk 4-5 miles a night and come home and start cleaning! I can remember my surgeon saying, "By next spring, you'll have so much energy, you won't know what to do with it!"......and he was right! So....I shop! LOL Give it time.........you'll be amazed! Thanks Claudia. I guess like with everything else I will have to be patient. It sounds just like me tho...I have a burst of energy and then nothing for a day or 2 cuz I over did it. Thanks again and congratulations on your weight loss!!!

Hi Dawn....I think I must be the exception to the rule because by the 6th day after my surgery I felt like I had a ton of energy! My doctor started me on 3 Carnation Instant Breakfasts on that day and I don't know if that was the reason or what but I didn't nap during the day anymore and I did my walking, a bit of housecleaning, I just felt terrific! I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and I still have lots of energy. The only problem I am having is remembering I am still healing and can't do everything I want to yet. My sister had the same doctor, her surgery was 6 months earlier than mine. At that time she was on clear liquids until the first follow up appointment. She didn't have near the energy I had. Your energy level will pick up...it just takes time...good luck!!

Hi Dawn I had energy by the second week and it was gone by the third so it can come and go quickly....Now I have energy but by the time I get home from work I am ready to drop.....remember to get in your protiens, water and vitamins...this will help. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. Christine 346/-80

Dawn, I had Open RNY and the forth week out was magical for me. It seems as though all the anesthesia and meds were out of my system and I was beginning to eat normal food. Up to that time I took "power naps" all the time. Don't overdo, and if you need to rest, go ahead and take it, it is your body's way of healing. Take Care, Lori 351/267/130
