I'm just wondering...
Hi Roxanne!
Well each doc has different rules so I'd ask your doc/nutritionist... I am 4 months out and I can drink carbonated stuff to an extent but it tends to make my pouch hurt... I just tend to stay away from it totally now but a little bit shouldn't hurt you if you really want some diet pepsi... Just let the fizz out so you don't become a gas bubble... When I have drank it I just take a spoon and stir it to help get the carbonation out or leave it sit opened before sipping...
I chew gum all the time (just use the sugar free kind)... I think most of the strict rules are for new post ops... I still watch what I put in my mouth tho and avoid sugars in general... Goodluck on your journey hon!

I was told definately NEVER touch carbonated drinks again, because it can stretch the pouch. However with Gum, I don't know. I'm a gum addict, however I've always chewed sugar free gum. As for getting stuck..I don't know what that means unless you swallow your gum..which I never do..so I don't know about it. I am pretty sure I'm gunna chew gum anyways after my surgery, since it'll be sugar free..
Hi Roxanne,
I was told that I had to give up carbonated drinks forever. It will stretch the pouch. The only way I would have it is if it was totally flat.
As far as gum is concerned...I chew sugarless gum all the time. I haven't swallowed a piece in about 30 years so...i guess i'm safe!
Have a great day!

Hi Roxanne
soda is gone forever for me....I have heard if you want alittle bit it should be flat but I rather do without....
As for the gum...I have seen here on the board even thou the Doctor said no gum they accidently swallowed it and that cause a blockage in the opening of your pouch....so that is also a but you should talk to your surgeon about it if you are very concerned about it....each doc is different...
I wish you luck in your quest for the answer....
