Let's put it this way. You take four short sips, putting an ounce of water into your pouch. How long do you wait before drinking again?

When I was first postop, I could only take one sip at a time; the second sip made me nauseous. A little better with Crystal Lite, etc, but still, that second sip was not pleasant. But at three months, I can now take three sips at a time which feels good when I am thirsty. My doctor had told me it would get easier to drink more as time goes by. Lynne

The reason I asked is that I seem to be able to drink a LOT more water than most people at my stage (six days post-op) do--if I'm taking constant short sips, I can drink a 16oz Poland Spring in 30 minutes or so. I was just wondering if something is wrong, since my experience with that is so different than what I've seen from others. I do NOT have the same situation with food--I just had two tablespoons of sugar-free chocolate pudding for breakfast, and I couldn't eat another bite with a gun to my head.

I have never had a problem with liquids..and for that I am grateful...I don't guzzle or chug..but have been able to drink normally since 3 or 4 days out of surgery. Sher' 272/222/???

I am four weeks post op today... but from the 3rd or 4th day, I did not have a problem with water or crystal light, as long as I sipped. I can take in even more if the liquid is room temperature to hot. I wouldn't worry about it. Food does not work that way at all though, does it? I did find that I do better with soups though, than any other foods... KC
