Insurance question????

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Federal Employees insurance. I had my consultation with the surgeon, Dr. Hill, and he was going to have my letter sent into the insurance company. When I called the ins. to see if they had received my letter and how soon a decision would be made, I was told that they do not prequalify for gastric bypass surgery. They said that my surgeon has to go onto their website and see if I qualify. They said that it will not be reviewed until after I have the surgery. What should I do? I called the surgeons office and asked the receptionist about what I was told and she said that I have to wait and talk to Dr. Hill. My next appointment isn't until May 2nd because he is going to be out of town. I would like to get the ball rolling before then. It seems like this has been a long process because my employer was not exactly accomodating when I had to have my tests done. I feel like I am going to go crazy! Should I call and speak to the nurse? Is there some other action I should take or should I just wait until my next appt? Any words of wisdom would be great!!! I feel so lost, I don't know what to do. Thanks Kathy

Kathy, Hun I am sorry you are going through all of this BS......~hug~ I know between the Dr's office's and the damn Ins Comp's it can drive you nuts..... I am still pre-op and starting my Ins struggle myself I can not offer advise but I just wanted to send my thoughts to you and prayers that all goes well.... I have never heard of them waiting to review your file until AFTER your surgery... Maybe try calling his PA or Nurse, that might help some...... best of luck hun Debra P
