Hello All I just recently told my employer about my surgery. Needless to say they were not happy. I told them I should be back in 2 weeks, but now I am wondering if I was just kidding myself and apparently them too?? I am having lap rny 4/19. My surgeon said I could be back in 2 weeks, so that is what I went with. I only work part-time about 18 hours a week. What do y'all think? I am a medical assistant/secretary, no heavy lifting involved. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks DonnaMarie

I teach and went back in 3 weeks. Everyone is different. You may be ok with a sitting part time job, but you can never tell for sure. Good luck!

Hi I had open and I went back in 3 weeks, everyone is different, I did tell my job I would be out 4 weeks, and then I needed a doc note for clearence to return to work, but here they don't know what kind of surgery I had either.....and I don't want them to.... I wish you much success in your journey to a healthier and happier lifestyle.... Christine

I work full time and I went back to work after 4 weeks. I did work some (maybe 2 hours or so at a time)from home after a few days. I think I would have been fine going back early - however, the extra time really did make a difference in my energy level. If you are working 18 hours a week and fairly sedentary you should be ok. Just be sure to listen to your body and give it time to recover. Mary

I'm a legal assistant. I had open RNY. Caruana [and I] had no problem returning to work in two weeks. I felt like going back in one, but it was a good idea to wait two and get accustomed to my new routine. You'll be just fine, and if your doc says go ahead, go on ahead!

DonnaMarie, I am planning to return to work on Friday, the 1st, exactly 3 weeks post op lap RNY. I may have been able to return after two, but I know for sure I can tolerate it after 3. Deb
