Just bring yourself. Trust me on this one. I brought so much stuff and I didn't use any of it. The day I check out I wore the same clothes I check in with. The hospital will give you everything you need. Good luck with you up coming surgery

Dina Hi. I am still pre-op, but had been scheduled for 3/17. I packed slippers, chapstick, body lotion, hair brush and comfortable clothes to wear home. Also, take a firm pillow or firm, stuffed animal to hold against your tummy when they make you cough and to use on your ride home. I did pack a robe and crossword book just in case I felt like using them. You don't really need too much. I never take my own nightgowns because the hospital gowns provide easier access for the nurses to change bandages, check IV's, etc. May your surgery be uneventful and your recovery speedy. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda

I just had my surgery on March 14 and I took stuff I never used. The hospital provided me with mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, soap, lotion, powder, etc. I took 3 housecoats and didn't use one of them! The bariatric gowns were big enough to keep my butt covered well when walking. I also took bootie socks, didn't use them either! The hospital provided them. I took my cross stitch, books, etc. didn't use any of them. Between visitors, walking, nurses, resting I didn't have time! LOL Good luck with your surgery, may it go as well as mine did! I am feeling great! I haven't been napping, I have been going out for short walks, and doing what I can handle without overdoing it. As for you.....don't believe any of the stories you have heard because EVERYONE is totally different! My sister had the surgery in September and things were very different even between us. So don't worry, just relax and enjoy the ride!! Joan

Besides the chapstick- essential, for your parched lips, I thought I would give you what I consider "tips". 1. Foam earplugs if you are not in a private room. 2. For lap rny I asked for ice packs for my belly and it helped alot. No one else mentions that. 3. Ask for a washcloth. You may not get to drink at first. Not even a lousy ice chip. I was allowed a foam sponge on stick to swish around my mouth the first night. The second night I wised up and got a cool washcloth over my nose and lips because it was so dry I was gasping. It helped alot. 4. I did have my cd player and just 2 relaxing cds that helped me space out and totally relax. It also blocked out the commotion in the room next to me. I had a troublemaker room mate (nuff said) . 5. I also brought some Olay facial cleansing wipes just to refresh myself from my bed. But it wasn't long before I was up in the bathroom and able to brush teeth and wash my face. 6. It might be difficult to bend over to wipe yourself, even in front. Bring a long rubber spatula or tongs. Whatver works for you. 7. Easy slip on/off slippers if you don't want to wear the hospital booties or need extra support for walking. 8. Move.. walk.. little bit at a time..but get up whenever you can. omg.. the gas pressure in your chest can be intense. BEST TO YOU!!!!

Hmmm, I'm out only two weeks and here's my advice: Don't carry your overnight bag, etc. into the hospital with you. Heck, I would have left my coat in the car if it was a little warmer. Someone can get it for you when you get your room. If you don't leave it they have to drag it around. I brought a box of baby whipes...helped when you couldn't get in the shower and limited the splash factor. Wasn't a shower but it helped. Also helped in the bathroom department as the dry tissue could pull. Bring your favorite pillow from home. I was uncomfortable but my non plastic cover pillow helped. You might also think of a small can of lysol. I shared a room and it was close quarters with the bathroom. I'd bring one change of clothes....make sure you wear loose bottoms because even now the incision hurts. Good luck! Deb
