Hi everyone, I have an appointment with my PCP on Monday morning and they want to know what I want them to say in the letter for the insurance co. As far as proof for 6 month progran, I'm getting that letter from my OB/GYN, from when I visited monthly when I was pregnant, but the insurance co still needs a letter from my pcp. I spoke to my pcp this morning and this is the first time I brought up that i was going to do wls. She seemes surprised, i dont know why and told me that i had to do a few things before i even thought about wls, like seeing a shrink, blood tests, nutritionist and all the things that i have already starting doing. I dont know what to have them write in the letter, any ideas? I rarely went to the dr unless i was really, really not feeling well... the last weight they have on me was 2 years ago, but ive been there plenty of times ony when i was sick though.... please help me.... anyone have a sample letter or idea of what i can have her write in the letter?? I have GHI and heard that they are very hard to get an approval from......

Gia, I have GHI and the letter from the PCP has to have the date, weight and what you are doing to lose weight (once a month for 6 consecutive months), also the letter needs to state all your old diets and the dates you were on them. It really is a pain in the tushy and I am still not sure why the Ins Comp wants all of this, other then to hope you will just not follow thru so they don't have to pay...... I have been doing the 6 month weight loss thing myself and I am in my 5th month (lost only 8 lbs..), last weigh in is April 11, then to see the surgeon on the 14th! What a waste of my PCP and my Nutritionist time, never mind my money (co pays for both each month). Hun I wish you the very best. I have an example letter from my Dr's office but I am not sure what your Dr requires but if you would like a copy just email me and I will send a copy to you......~hug~ take care Debra P

Hey Debra, Thanks for getting back to me... I am getting a letter from my ob/gyn with the dates and weights from May 03-Mar 04 but i dont know if that will be good enough because i was pregnant at the time... my dr did suggest i go to a nutritionist during my pregnancy, i never did... i'm hoping the ins co will accept that letter.... but i was also told that i need a letter from my pcp as well.... that's why i dont know what to have him write since im getting the letter with dates and weights from my ob/gyn.
