Hi gang i am new here, a lil info on myself. I am 29 live in Lancaster NY. I am married, blah blah, LOL, anyways i wanna have the gastric bypass surgery done. I am morbidly obese according to the asbs site asbs.org/html/bmi.html. I am 295, 5'8''. I wanna lose the excess before i get out of hand. i have been big all my life (since birth) and have tried all the diets out there- like I' m sure you all have- with some success, only to have the weight come back. I have joint pain in my knees and ankles with inoperable heal spurs, now.(ow!) I have a family history of diabetes and dont want that to happen to me. Anyways I have talked a lil about the surgery with my cousin who just had the surgery done on feb 24. she's pretty happy with the decision and helped me with some of my questions. I am wondering if any of you could reccomend a good surgeon for me. She reccomended her doc, but he is quite the busy man! it took about 10 months just to talk with the doc. I wanna know if there are any surgeons in the buffalo area that do Laproscopic that maybe arent as booked up and good at what they do. sorry for the long post just nervous/excited and anxious.-jason

Dear Jason, The only doc that does lap in Buffalo is Posner. Caruana is the other "Big" surgeon that everyone goes to. There are also a few in Rochester O'Malley and Boss. Posner's wait is very long. Caruana is very quick but he does not do lap. There is also Dr. Dibendetto (sp) I want to say he is lockport, but Iam not sure what he does lap or open. I will most likely be going with Caruana, Just cannot do the wait with Posner. Best of luck to you DonnaMarie

I would rather not wait either but i have heard that the other method"open" leaves behind a rather large scar. true? if i dont have to go that route id rather not but i have yet to see a open scar, i know its rather petty to worry about the scar when my health is at risk but if i do have the choice ill take it. I did call and arrange for the paperwork with Posner today, cant wait! i would love to have this before summer but hey ill be ok.

Who has had "open"? i am pondering it, because of the wait time with "lap". I am windering where the cut is ? any pics? LOL i know its weird but i am a huge baby and the long cuts freaks me out!
