Do you have to have a supervised diet before your insurance will consider approving you for weight loss surgery? I am trying to find out how many there are of us out there. Beth M

Beth, It depends on the insurance companies. Many now a days are requesting it more and more. They look at a supervised diet as well as any health complications as a result of the weight. It is best to check with specific insurance carriers. Terri

Beth, I have GHI and I have to do the 6 month weight loss program, which is a waste of time for all but o well.....I know back in Oct there were 3 that required this: GHI, Cigna and Aetna but more might have been added..... I would ask the Dr and he/she should be able to help you further with that....I tried call GHI myself prior to the 1st visit with my surgeon and all they would tell me was I needed a letter of necessity, well we know that information is not right..... well best of luck hun....... Take care Debra
