HELP WITH PROTEIN!!!
Hi everybody
I'm coming into my last 2 weeks b4 surgery. But I still havent' found a protein shake. I have tried the carnation instant breakfast in all 4 flavors. They aren't great but they taste better than slim fast (lol). I'm just unhappy with the 4g of protein in each shake. I was thinking about buying some unjury protein powder and just adding it to the shake. I blend the shakes in the blender with some ice and it comes out like a smoothie. Another thing is that i read somewhere that i shouldn't mix the protein shakes with milk because that will make me gain weight. Is this true? That really shocked me because i can't see myself mixing a chocolate shake with water or flat soda. I only use 1 % milk and in my post op diet it says that i should have 2 cups of milk everyday. Please shed some light on this subject for me. And if you can reccomend a good chocolate shake and what website to buy it from.. i would appreciate it !
The slimfast and that stuff wasn't really made with us in mind, or with high protein in mind. Chocolate? GNC 100% Whey Protein is awesome and mixes with milk or water instantly. Also, it is not as expensive as some of the fancy brands. It makes a wonderful cup of hot cocoa.
There are websites that offer samples of different protein mixes, like wlssuccess.com or vitalady.com. There will be days when the last thing you want is a milkbased *anything*. For those times, there is Isopure [40 grams per bottle] and there is whey fruity or nectar. You can get samples of the whey fruity or nectar. My favorite in that bunch is roadside lemonade.
Also, bear in mind that things are going to taste different to you after the surgery. Buy small until you learn what you are going to like and/or tolerate.
Most health food stores have sample sizes of different protein mixes. You will become an expert at label reading before it's all over!
Hi Crystal
Well your day is almost here you must be so excited.....I personal use Champion pure whey protein and I have to say it is good....
you can also go to vitalady.com and buy some samples of different drinks they are like $1.99 a packet that contains 2 servings....
I hope this helps.. good luck
Christine
Crystal,
First off...best wishes with your surgery coming up.
Second, I drank Carnation no sugar added with carb countdown milk(skim) and never had any trouble...kinda gets a little thick (like a shake)...I liked it.
So odd how different doctors and dieticians have their own guidelines...I have come across many different post op instructions for diets, from people that have had the WLS.
Take Care,
Roxanne
Hi Crystal: You and I are going to have surgery on the same day. I still can't believe that this is really happening. I start my liquid diet on Friday. My Dr. allows the Atkins shakes, EAS, Slimfast low carb, etc. I like to make my own protein shakes with yogurt and fat free milk, but it's absolutely no dairy for the 10 days prior to surgery for me. I'm trying really hard not to binge. I found Isopure in GNC - 0 carbs, 0 fat, 40 g. protein. Comes in 5 or 6 different flavors. So far, I've tried the pineapple and the grape. Not too bad.
Best of luck on the 28th!
Cheryl
Hi ! I have tried different protein shakes... and i keep coming back to the Atikns shakes.. You can find them the cheapest at Walmart 4 cans for about 4.50 or go to their website and they are having a sale on the powder containers for $ 9.99 , they come in a variety of flavors I love the Vanilla and the chocolate flavors. I know i have also seen them in Shop & Stop & Pathmark. Each shake has 20 grams of protein in a can. Good luck.. Nina
