Getting worried
Hey all:
I have been noticing in the last couple of weeks that there seems to be a lot of people who are having complications after the surgery. That is making me a bit apprehensive.
I am wondering if the complications are with the older age group or is it a mix of ages? I am scheduled for 3/17 and am 58 years young. My doctor and surgeon have been very thorough, so I do not anticipate any problems, but these other WLS patients probably didn't either.
I have seen several who say they would not do the surgery over again. Is this becoming the norm? I feel I can do well as I am always drinking water, don't crave soda, have a strong will to do as instructed.
Sorry so long, but it is nerve wracking to see so many with complications or who are not doing well after surgery.
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. :angel/
Brenda,
No one could have changed my mind prior to my surgery. I was absolutely determined to have it up until the second I was asleep.
When I first woke up I was so excited with anticipation for my future. I felt a lot worse than I had expected. The next 24 hours started the complications. Did I expect them - NO, I was a bit concerned about clots as I had a history. All precautions were taken. I probably would have been fine had I not needed the second emergency surgery. Things happen. No one can predict who will and will not have problems.
Be educated, be prepared and if you are you will go into this the the same faith and excitement I did. If all of your clearences are in place you "should" be fine, but always know there are no guarantees.
Wishing you the most smooth and uneventful surgery possible.

Thanks for your response. I am educated and prepared and I believe that God is guiding me through this. They changed the date and I believe that it was God's doing as I got the flu about 2.5 weeks before my surgery had been scheduled. I do not plan on changing my mind.
In my mind, I thoroughly trust the doctors and know that if God wants me, He will take me no matter where I am.
I will have the surgery and it will be uneventful and my recovery will be speedy.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

First off congratulations on your upcoming surgery. No one can predict the outcome of these surgeries. I had my surgery on 12/16 and had to be rushed back into surgery on 12/17 as my doctor discovered I had a leak. Despite being in the hospital for 9 days and having a feeding and drain tube, I would do this all over again. I am 2 months post-op and I feel great (plus I am 37 years old).
God bought you to this and God will bring you through it. Continue to pray because you can't compare yourself to others. You will do fine.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi. Thanks for the congrats and your reply!!! I agree that no one can predict the outcome except for God. Yes, God has brought me to this and I know He will bring me through it. I have prayed everyday for his guidance.
I am sorry that you had some difficulty, but are feeling much better. I guess I just needed some encouragement from the friends on the board.
I am determined to do this for my health's sake. I know that God is watching over me.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Brenda,
I think with any type of surgery, there are risks - - at any age. I think that the decision has to be yours. The doc's you have are awesome! They know what they are doing and are prepared for complications. You know that they have done over 600 surgeries without error.
Pray about it. God will send you a sign. You have to search within yourself regarding this. Look at the complications in your life. Are they worth the pain? Could they also lead to complications later in life?
Everything in life is a chance. What is meant to be is meant to be.
I will pray that you make the right decision and that God will bless you!

Thanks for your words of encouragement. You have no idea how much they mean. Yes, my surgeons are wonderful and I do trust them completely.
I will have the surgery for my health's sake. I have prayed to God and believe that His guidance is what caused my surgery to be rescheduled.
I know that He was watching over me. I have totally put my trust in God and the surgeons. After all, God gave them the skill and knowledge to perform this surgery.
By the way, how are you doing?
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. :ange.:
