Need some advice--about to do my final pre-surgery shop :)

Quick question. I'm doing my final pre-surgery food shop today--getting stuff like sugar-free jello, bottled water, broth, etc. for after I get home. When buying broth--I've checked out the MBT cubes before...they have, both the chicken and the beef, about 1g of sugar per serving. Is that small amount enough to trigger dumping? If so, is there a brand of broth cubes that has no sugar whatsoever?

1 gram won't be a problem, but check out the sodium. Bouillion cubes are notorious for being full of salt. Might not be a problem for you, but my ankles are swelling just thinking about it! Are you looking for clear liquids only? Don't forget the SF popsicles. I lived on SF pudding for awhile. I don't know if you can have it. I had my first one in the hospital.

Barry~~ Kathy's right about the sodium in those cubes!! Check out the cans of low sodium broths!! They're good! And the Sugar Free Popsicles, there a must have!!!

I know the sodium is sort of high on those...but I need SOME taste to what I'm having . I love VERY spicy food...know I can't use my favorite habanero sauce after the surgery, so I need some flavor there . I picked up two boxes of Trix Sugar Free Popsicles today--they'll come in handy, I'm sure .

Barry~~Right after your WLS, your taste will be different. So don't stock up on everything. I hated any type of spicy food before WLS--never would even try them--NOW that is all I eat anything spicy!! and Cheese too, with Super Hot Picante Sauce. Be careful of the Sugar Alcohols they can make you Here is a website that will explain them!! Good Luck!! http://www.formyhealth.com/sugar_alcohols.htm

I suggest Swanson's or College Inn canned broth -- not as high in sodium and tasted just right to me pre-op and post-op ... 1 gram of protein and 5 calories!

Hi Barry I, too, have been doing pre-surgery shopping. I was unsure about amount of sugar allowable. Don't forget the Sugar Free Philly Swirl Stix from Wal-mart or Sam's Club. How about Crystal Light? Is that a clear liquid? Can that be mixed into the bottled water for a little flavor? Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda
