family health plus...

does anyone here have medicaid - family health plus and got surgery done in ny ? if so what were their requirments for approval?

Hi. I have medicaid/FHP with HIP as my provider. I was covered in full. My medicaid is only used for dental and prescriptions and HIP for everything else even though its through medicaid. I called HIP and asked, they say that as long as its medically necessary, you are covered. Then just before my surgery, I called again and they said I was approved and gave me the authorization number. This was just in December. Hope this helps you and good luck. I know different areas have different rules. Just make sure you have referrals for EVERYTHING or they wont pay! That includes the nutritionist.
