Hi guys, My name is Sandy and I am new here. My surgery is scheduled for 2/15/05 at North shore in Manhassat N.Y. My question is what to expect after surgery? I just read about a swallow test, what's that? Any other tests afterwards to expect? I am having an open rny if that makes any difference.I'm getting alittle nervous as the time is coming by quickly. Just want to know what to expect after I wake up . Thanks Sandy

Hi Sandy Welcome to OH. It is a great place to get information! I had lap RNY 11/15. I had a swallow test after surgery and a doppler to check for clots. Other than that it was pretty uneventful. I couldn't eat anything until the swallow test, not even ice. Once that was done I was able to drink clear liquids and by day 3 I did soupy cream of wheat which was horrible. But every surgeon is different and you will probably have your own diet to follow. Expect some pain although for me it was minimal. I had a morphine pump but only used it for about a day. Open may be alittle harder but they will make sure you are comfortable and don't try and be brave use the meds if you need to. The first few weeks are rough but it gets easier everyday. E mail me anytime to chat. Good Luck, Tina
