Hi All Just wanted to know if anyone who has sleep apnea has had WLS. What if anything is done differently? I did the sleep apnea study on Monday night and they woke me during the night to connect me to a C-Pap machine. Since I don't see the do****il 2/3, I am assuming that I have sleep apnea. Will this delay WLS? Thanks. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda

Hi Brenda, I was diagnosed with Sleep apnea during my sleep study also. I was given a CPAP machine to use while I sleep at night. The facility where you had the sleep study should sent your surgeon a letter telling them the results of the study. They may not delay your surgery, just make sure you are getting a machine if you need it. You would have to speak to your surgeons office and ask them. Jackie

Hi Jackie, Thank you for making me feel better about the apnea. I don't even see the pulmonary doctor until 2/3 to get the results so I won't know if he is ordering a machine or not until then. Did you have to take your machine with you when you went in to have the surgery? Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda

Hello Brenda. I have severe apnea now for 12 years and need to use a Bi-Pap machine. A new sleep study just prior to my 11/16/o4 surgery showed my need for much higher pressure settings on my machine meaning that my Apnea had worsened. I knew that without the study since I was again quite tired and sleeping poorly. Since my surgery I have lost 42 lbs and already have been able to reduce the pressure settings on my Bi-Pap. Hopefully, soon, I will no longer need the machine. My surgeon had me bring my machine with me to the hospital which they adequately marked with my ID. The hospital's pulmonologist checked with my pulmonologist to verify my settings before I was allowed to use the machine. I was glad it was with me. I slept better while in the hospital. Using a C/Bi-Pap is difficult for some to adapt to but well worth the effort. Good sleep is a life saver. Good luck with your surgery!

Hi Bruce: Thank you for your reply. I have not received the results from my study yet, but the tech woke me up during the study to connect me to a c-pap machine so I am assuming that I will need one. I called my pulmonologist's office and asked them to leave him a note that I would appreciate it if he would get the pre-authorization before my appointment if I need a machine. The receptionist said she would and also would call me if there is a cancellation earlier than Feb. 3rd. My surgeon requires you bring your machine with you also. Congratulations on your loss. I can hardly wait to be on the losing side. I get more anxious every day and obstacles keep popping up. I hope I can adjust to the machine if needed. Good luck with your journey on the losing side. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda

Hi Brenda! I had sleep apnea (HAD! ). I was able to stop using my machine less than 2 months after surgery. I'd think they'd want your machine to be up and running before surgery (I had to bring my mask to the hospital). Best wishes! Claudia

Hi Claudia: I am glad you no longer have apnea. That is great!!! No wonder you are doing the happy dance. I hope that I am that lucky. Of course, I have not even received the results from the study yet. I don't see the doctor until Feb. 3rd, but requested they get pre-authorization for the machine if I need one before my appointment so I can schedule my surgery soon. Thanks for your information. I appreciate your help. Everyone here is so great when it comes to answering questions or just listening to ranting. I think my surgeon also requires me to bring the mask and machine with me to the hospital. Good Luck in your journey on the losing side. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda
