BCBS OF CNY

Has anyone used bluecross blue shield of Central New York? If so, what should I be expecting as far as tests and requirements??? Thanks! Stephanie

Hi,Stephanie: I have BC/BS of CNY, but it depends on the plan your company has with them. I called the local office located here and asked them what their criteria/guidelines were regarding WLS. The person with whom I spoke mailed me a copy of the criteria from our plan. Mostly, it must be medically necessary and you have to have a BMI over 40 or over 35 with co-morbidities such as High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, etc. Also, the surgeon whom I am seeing sends the letter to the insurance company for you. I have BC/BC the EMPIRE plan w/ A BMI of about 40 no health issue w. United covering out patient and BC/BS covering hospital and had no problem being approve went for a appt. on a Wednesday and go approve on a Friday w/ no other evaluation requirment. BC/BS is a BIG paln provider for most of the 50 states and they have been know for both good response and not so good it is all up to the plan you are enroll in . Only thing I can say is that you are in NY so you might have a good chance being covered w/ no requirment or w. requirments. take look at other posting whee other people compain of just not being aprroved at all w/ requirment s or / w/ out.
