Hi Everyone, So, I have been going along, enjoying my new life, and a couple of days ago I started having this horrendous pain in my abdomen. Like double you over in pain - can't take a full breath pain. I went to the surgeon yesterday and he ran a CAT scan, and all is well with my surgery site, but he thinks I probably have either gallstones or an internal hernia. I am scheduled for an ultrasound on Tuesday to check for gallstones, but I am also scheduled for surgery again on 1-27. He said he will either be taking out my gallstones or going in to look for an internal hernia. I am devastated. I don't WANT to have surgery again. Once was traumatic enough! And I can't help but think he is rushing into it.... I mean, if the ultrasound comes back and i have stones, then definitely take the little bugger out... but to knock me unconscious to go in an look around... I don't know if I like that. Especially since the pain just started and isn't constant.... Wondering if anyone else has had their gallbladder out and what people think of this. Thanks Lisa

Lisa.....I had my surgey on Dec. 21,2004...and on december 29th..I was back in having emergency surgery to repair a leak...I now have a PEG feeding tube in my "old stomach"..it is scheduled to be taken out on Monday Jan. 17th....I can understand the feeling that you are having about not wanting to go through another surgery...I didn't even have time to mentally prepare for the second sugery...everything happened so fast I was in the emergence room in the early evening thinking that I was just dehydrated waiting to get a few IV's and then be on my merry way....WRONG!!!! I went into surgery like at 8:30 P.M. that evening ang came out at about 1:00 am...when I woke up I had tubes coming out of EVERYWHERE!!!!! and a big HUGE incision down my chest with staples.......along with a feeding tube!!!!! I have so far lost over 30 pounds but I am not enjoying it yet......I am so miserable!!! I regret having the surgery and I am VERY depressed...I can't do anything or go anywhere except to the doctors office!!!! I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.....and as far as having surgery for stones...I don't believe that it is anything too major..I believe it is a simple procedure.......by the way I am only 38 and this whole nightmare that I am going through was not in my "plan"!!!!

Hi Cynthia, Hang in there. I promise you that even with the complications you have had, you will be happy you had the surgery. It will get better. Good luck, and e-mail me if you ever need to talk. Lisa

I had my gall bladder out 16 months after my lap RNY, by my wls surgeon. If you are anything like me, the lap gall bladder surgery will be a piece of cake. I went in one day, and was home the next. My sister came to get me at the hospital, and I was able to take a shower, blow dry my hair and put make-up on. We walked 2 blocks to the car. I was out to dinner the next night, andf back to work and the gym within a week. For me, it was mild discomfort, and certainly much easier than living with the anxiety of never knowing when another attack would come. My surgeon said that it is good for us to have it out after an attack, because the method of removing stones for non wls patients is with an endoscope through the stomach (I think), and we can not have that done after our surgeries. It is nothing like an RNY recovery. Now a TT is a different story. LOL!!! I had 3 surgeries in 18 months. I didn't mind the gall bladder, but by the time I got done with the TT I swore of more PS unless someone gave it to me free if I did it right then!!
