Does anyone know of a surgeon around the Albany area (or not too far from Rutland, VT) that doesn't make their gastric by-pass patients lose weight or document weight loss attempts before they will perform surgery? Thanks for any help. JoAnn

Hi JoAnn, most surgeons have that criteria because the Insurance Company won't approve the gastric bypass surgery without it. Not sure of your area. Syracuse/Ithaca it is mandatory.

Not ALL doctors ask their patients to lose weight pre-op (mine doesn't but we're in NYC), although they expect them not to gain pre-op. HOWEVER, documented past weight loss attempts is across the board -- especially because that is a requirement of most insurance companies AND surgeons like the info for their own records. Good luck!

Joann, All of the doctors I am aware of in Albany DO REQUIRE some weight loss and proven attempts. Good luck Mary

Hi, There is a surgeon in Saratoga area that was performing WLS his name is Matthew Anderson - Phone #518-587-1302. A friend of mine recommended him to me. She loved him. I don't believe he had a required weight loss before surgery. Insurance companies require past weight loss programs to show that you have tried and regained the weight. Talk to your primary care doctor about it. If your DR is not supportive, find another. Also check with your insurance company about what their requirement are. Good Luck, Winge

I know there are bariatric surgeons out of Saranac Lake, NY that dont require or loss or document wt loss. Thier names are Hixson and Hill. I know the surgical group has a name...I just cant remember it. However your insurance co. may require wt loss attempts.
