why no alcohal for a year?

I was wondering why they say no drinking for a year? what would it do to you if you drank, I have a cruise to go on and I will be 8months out

Margaret, I am only pre-op but my cuz has this done last March, she can drink like a fish but she also is ok with sugars.....She is one of those people that can eat and drink just about anything without ......lucky for her OR is it!!!....... well just thought I would add something, best of luck hun.... My surgeon said the liver is very sensitive for about a year after the surgery, and it's best to avoid alcohol......I'd imagine the sugar content would be a problem, too..... Claudia

Hi Margaret... According to my Surgeons staff, the alcohol consists of unprocessed sugars and with your pouch not having the large intestine to absord the sugars it would cause dumping! Hope it helps. Jalonda

all of what they said, plus - alcohol is filled with empty calories, as are the things they mix it with. You won't die from it, but if you sugar dump, you may just feel like it... [okay, I know that wasn't funny - but sugar dumping when it happens is not pleasant]. Good luck!
