HAIR SHEDDING...NEED ADVICE!!!

I was told that my hair was going to shed...but MY GOSH!!! It's a wonder I still have any on my head. It's in the car, on the bed, heck I'd be watching TV and see it on the sofa. Not to mention my hair wasn't thick prior to surgery. I've always seen my stylist once a week and if this keeps up she is going to want to know what the heck is going on. My actual hair is healthy, no split ends or damages. It's falling out from the roots. Taking extra protein (a lot) won't stop it, will it? What about extra hair treatments? I'm 4.5 months post op, anyone know when I should expect it to stop? It started about a month ago, but is getting worse.

Hi Candie, Mine started around the 5th month and stopped around 7-7 1/2 months. Debbie

At my group the other night they recommended biotin and zinc as additional supplements that help the hair loss. I guess, though, that nothing will stop it. Good luck. Cheryl

Hey Candie, I took biotin starting 3 weeks post op. I am now a week shy of being 10months out from wls. I have not had any hair loss. I think biotin worked for me. I have also heard that Nioxin shampoo works as well. Nicole -161

Nicole I take sublingual biotin 1000 mcg daily. I am also taking prenatal vitamins rather than over the counter vitamins which I figured would give me a bit of everything. I remember when I was pregnant how my hair grew like a weed. Do you think this combination could help me out when my hair loss time comes?? I am so nervous because I have such baby fine hair and can't afford to lose much. I am asking you this because you mentioned how you did not lose any hair when you were taking biotin. I have been taking the biotin since I was 3 weeks out also. Thanks Marianne

Thanks for your responses. Nicole, I wish someone had told me about the biotin earlier. As for prenatal pills I did hear that it makes your hair grow. Debbie, it seems like this won't be done anytime soon. I'm going to get some biotin tomorrow!
