Hey there! I am going through the same thing! I have a scheduled date for Dec 8th and had to quit smoking Oct 20th. IT IS HARD but will be worth it in the long run. They are only concerned for your safety and that is why they require it. The only advice that I can give to you is what was given to me and it worked. Ask yourself this one simple question... Is a cigarette more important than your life (or this surgery)? Are you going to let a cancer causing, stinky, smelly, tar filled cigarette dictate whether you lose weight or not? If ya need, just email me. Good luck hun! Jalonda

Beth, I am holding too but mine is for Ins Comp reasons and I am only in my 5th month of a 6month weight loss program, needless to say I am not doing very well on it...... but anyways, all I can say is hang in there...... Take care Debra

Your surgeon is more lenient than mine! I have to be smoke free for six months!!!!! AND, he's going to do a nicotine screen just before the surgery. I quit on 10/12, but my PCP gave me a prescription of Zyban to help me along and so far it's not too bad. Not that I don't crave, but I'm not crazed !!! Hang in there, it's the toughest thing I've done in a long time, I've smoked for over 30 years. You can do it. Once you get past that first week, your determination will take over. I'm so determined to have this surgery that I absolutely will not let a cigarette keep me from having it. One day at a time. Good luck.
