question for post ops...
hi friends,
i am still in extreme pain and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue.
i am 5 days post op and by day 3 very bad pain set in. if i try to even sip water i get a stabbing pain in my whole abdomen area.
i reverted back to clear liquids yesterday and struggled down 15 oz of liquid all day.
i called my dr. today and he advised me to take some mylanta but i am in such terrible pain still. i also asked if he thought i could be gas and he said no, that my stomache is irritated, swollen and needs to heal.
he does want to see me tomorrow but i wanted to know if any of you have been through the same thing?
i have heard such positive experiences from everyone i am feeling nervous as to where this is coming from...
as always, thank for your support!

Hi Shea--I went thru the same thing--it turned out that my new pouch was "swollen" from surgery--i ended up back in the hospital on day 4 because i was dehydrated, which really intensified the pain. Try eating the Sugar Free Popsicles, at least you're getting some liquid that way. I found that was the only thing i could eat for the first week. I was scared to death at first, but after day 7, i felt back to normal...there is a light at the end of the tunnel..hang in there !

my doctor had me on prevacid which helped with the healing. when i stopped the medication the pain came back. it now comes in a solutab which means it dissolves in your mouth like mylanta. maybe he cangive that a try for you. just sip sip sip all day that is your job for now. this will get better. toni
hi ree,
thanks so much for the info. i know i am dehydrated. i have been feeling it for 2 days but today is terrible. i was figuring that my dr will admit me back to the hospital. i didn't go to the er in fear of it, but i will be calling him in a few hours anyway so it won't make that much of a difference.
i did try the popsicles, but it seems that the colder the substance, the worse the pain. i have been sipping a little water just to get something in my body...
thanks again, i really appreciate it!

At 5 days post op what were you eating/drinking anyhow if you had to revert back to clear liquids. We had to do Clear liquids for a week anyhow then pureed and strained thru a strainer(baby food) for a month I think. I think maybe you are just moving thru the stages too fast and your swollen tummy is rebelling. Hope you get some answers tomorrow.

hi faith,
i am following my doctor's orders strictly...
by the third day i was allowed to go on total liquids. meaning, carnation instant breakfast, skim milk, etc. so i tried the carnation for lunch. i only tried to drink 4oz but couln't even drink half due to the pain. thinking it was the full liquids, that was why i reverted back to clear only. mainly water.. =(
thanks for the info though. i hope he can help me today... hopefully i will be feeling better soon. this is just unexpected and it seems to be getting worse...
thanks again,
shea
Well - one of the things I did without even thinking to ask - was to add aloe vera juice to my liquid intake. I figured if it heals the outside of the skin so well after a burn, it has to do miracles with the inside. My pouch healed very very well and suprisingly quick. I added one ounce aloe vera to one ounce Boost Breeze. Worked like a charm.
Good luck to you - Ask your doc about the aloe. Heck, can't hurt, right?
