Help with info

Hi!! I need to know if anyone who is seeking or has had wls had a problem with an ulcer? GERD? Did these things keep you from having surgery? I have first consult on 12/6 and wondered if I would still be a candidate. Thanks for any and all help. Brenda

Brenda, my sister and I had surgery in April. My sister and I both had GERD and she also had an ulcer at one time. They just have to be sure the ulcer is GONE before surgery. The GERD actually helped because she was exactly 100 pounds overweight and GERD is a co-morbidity that is helped SIGNIFICANTLY by surgery. She is doing great and so am I. Good luck on the 6th.. He has been doing wls since the 80's. I can't wait to be on the losing side. It looks as if you are doing great! I haven't seen 140 since I was 16!!!! Congratulations to you and your sister!!

Hi Brenda I was advised by my surgeon to have and upper endoscopy as one of my pre surgery tests, and sure enough they found an ulcer. The gastro wouldn't give me the medical clearance till it was healed and my surgeon said the same so he put me on medication for a month and then I had to have another endoscopy to make sure it was healed and sure enough it was. My surgeon said that there never going to be able to look into that part of my stomach again so he wanted to make sure it was gone it was in the portion of my stomach that was bypassed. Thanks Liz. It sure makes me rest a bit easier. I have been on medication for quite some time. I take Protonix daily for about 3 years. I hope it is healed. I guess time will tell. Good Luck in your journey on the losing side. Again, thanks.
