Ok I am at my wits end here. Been in the process of getting insurance approval for months and months, and finally I am approved. Now, I just got a call from my Dr's office that I am denied, and I am scheduled to go in on December 1. They said its because I need 6 month doctor supervised diet....and in a letter from my PCP he mentions weigh****chers from 1/03 till 7/03. ummm not good enough??? I can't wait any longer.. will the insurance company feel better if I take a heart attack or if my BP gets higher? any help please email me.... Jennifer, I don't understand how these Ins comp can approve someone then denied..... I have GHI and they want a Dr supervised weight loss program and a Nutrionist for 6 months, which I am in my 5 month, damn Ins Comp...... The only way around it for me is get a lawyer but I can afford that and really this has turned out better for me even though it is killing me to wait......Hun I am sorry you have to go through that stuff now after you thought you were approved........ Try and have a great holiday hun..... Take care Debra Peace

My insurance company denied me for this same reason at first (they didnt approve me first though - it was just a straight out denial). How many times have you seen your pcp since you started this journey? Did your pcp record your weight and discuss it at all? You can ask for those Dr notes and use that as Dr. supervised diet. I have Aetna, but they have the same requirement. I went to my Dr. once per month since May and was scheduled for surgery 9/21 but got denied in the end of August because I only had 4 months of Dr supervised diet, so I went to the Dr in Sept and Oct and faxed those notes to Aetna and was approved and had surgery on 11/11.
