Is it common for your hair to fall out after surgery? If so does it usually grow back?

it sure is common but it will stop and new hair should grow in...hang in there you will find many things happening but in the end it will all be worth it.... Christine

yes, mine got very thin, started falling out only a couple of weeks after surgery. However it has started thickening up again, and has been for the last month or two.I am now 9 months out. It is worth it, hang in there.. Lee 304/164/145

HI John, It is very common for your hair to fall out. Mine starting falling out around 4th month post-op. I am now 11 months post-op and it is starting to come back in. I am taking Biotin 5 mg. I bought it from the Vitamin Shoppe. You might want to try it. I have heard good things about it. Have a great day....Lorraine

Hi John~~So happy that you are doing ALL the research and asking questions before your WLS!! My hair starting falling out around 4 months out---my dr say that there really is nothing you can buy to stop it. He told me to make sure I get in my Protein and it will grow back!! He was right--not only did it grow back--but it's much curly now!!! Keep posting all your questions and concerns

Hi John Your hair will fall out if you are not getting in enough Protein, my Dr told me the first sign that I am not getting enough protein will be my hair starting to fall out. So when it happened I took in more and it stopped just as fast as it started. I have not lost anymore since so I would say to make sure you get in enough and you will do fine. Tony

Hi Alice I am doing great and all over the PS thing, I am back to 100% and more these days. I went to DC a few weeks ago and meet a bunch of great people down there and had FUN. I was the one that lost the most weight of all the POST OP's there with my 200lb weight loss so we can chalk one up for the NY board. As of Tuesday I am in California in LA for a few days then heading to Palm Springs to help a friend drive back to NY on Saturday. I saw my WLS Dr on Wednesday and he was so happy to see me since I dont tell them I am coming I just walk in the office. I got on his scale and I have now lost 202lbs to date and on Friday I will be 21 months out and still loosing a few lbs every month. The weather is warm here in the 80's on Wednesday a lot better than the 30's back home. Its a tough job but HAY someone has to do it and now I can take on that job without any problems. Hope all is well and I hope to be home by Monday night from our ride across country. Talk to all you guys soon and if not all of you great people on the NY board have a HAPPY TURKEY DAY Tony 420/218/DONE but one never knows I can still use a lb or two more (lol)
