Hi everybody. I have had my surgery date changed twice since October. I am getting very anxious and scared. I am currently scheduled for 12/6. I am so afraid of the dehydration after surgery. I am not sure if I can handle being on limited fluids for the first few days after surgery. All they give is the one ounce of ice chips every four hours after surgery, then day two alittle more fluid. How do you all cope with the thurst and dry throat? Thanks

It's not as bad as you think. You can't drink too much in the beginning any way. So just do little slips all day long. That will be your main job while you recouperate. You'll do fine. Toni

I just had my surgery on Thursday, 11/11 and I was on an iv until I had my swallow test that said everything was ok. I was allowed to wet my mouth but not drink before that but the iv kept me well hydrated. The trick for me has been drinking enough since they took the iv out on Friday at about 5. I am drinking as much as I can but in slow sips and I am not finding myself thirsty.
