Which to do.???
hi tanya
i am scheduled for my surgery in 11 days and i have been trying to lose weight too.
i started out by taking away the bad things and tried to eat a diet similar to the one we will have to eat for the rest of our lives. i no longer drink any soda or drinks with sugar. crystal light is great. if you like iced tea, they have an awesome raspberry flavored one!
i eat my proteins first and watch my carbs...
when i crave a bad food i think about how i have made a lifelong commitment and it starts with me having the will power to give up unhealthy food. i find that it is actually easier for me since i know i will have this tool to keep me on track and in check for the rest of my life. not just another yo-yo diet.
the first week i lost 5 lbs just by ommiting soda and regular iced tea!!
hope this helped a little! good luck to you!

Thanks for the advice :D
My biggest problem is bread! I was on Atkins once and I did so good....now that I am off of it I cant seem to get away from the dang bread!...oh yea and sweets! Chocolate is like my best friend! Cookies too!...I wish I could get away from them...mainly chocolate though!

Watching carbs is nice, but what you *really* need to watch are SUGARS, which are not the same thing. The body needs a certain amount of carbs, but nothing good comes from sugars ~ the best diet I got from Dr. DeLeon was:
red or green vegetables
chicken or fish [baked or broiled]
beef once aweek
no pork
It's all good food and all lends itself to weight loss. and years ago, before my problem happened, I did lose weight quite well on that plan.
Hi Tanya! It seems we are neighbors!! I had my surgery done this past Thursday, 11/11, by Dr. Cerabona so we also have the same surgical office. I lost some weight between my initial consult and my pre-op visit but only about 6 lbs and they were quite happy with that. I had salads often but I also didnt deny myself things that I wanted. I ate somewhat more moderately, watching the sugar intake and making sure to substitue splenda for sugar in most things. But now I am on the other side (I can hardly believe it!!) and things are much different - so far very good. I am not having any pain and havn't had any pain medication since Friday at about noon when they disconnected me from the PCA. I did have two tylenol at the end of Friday though for a headache. I am eating my three liquid meals a day, and introduced the shakes yesterday because I was doing so well. Good luck to you!
Sorry I"m late in answering you, but I just discovered this part of this website!!
I have my consult with a surgeon tomorrow. Meanwhile, i've been doing the Grand Food Tour because I know they're going to say I have to lose before surgery!!! Chocolate and bread are my downfall, too and potato chips and cookies and cake and ice cream and......
Anyway, I'm nearby as well - I work in Goshen. If you find a diet that works, let me know, I"m gonna need it.
