Hello all, I have a question about Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the surgery, has anyone here suffered from that and how did it act after surgery? Of course everyone is different and that is why the Dr.'s really can not tell you how it will effect you until you are there. I have dealt with dumping like symptoms forever from the Irritable Bowel but I know it is nothing like the dumping after surgery.......... Just thought I would ask, thanks again all for the warm and loving welcome to this site...... Thanks all......... Debra Peace

Hi Debra, how are you? I just want to inform you that not everyone dumps. I had surgery 8/30/04 and haven't dumped yet, and I eat everything. I was told that I should never eat anything over 10g of sugar at any one sitting to avoid it. Well, I had to see for myself. Yesterday got the best of my curiosity so I ate snack cakes that come two in a package with 33 g of sugar total, ready for my big dump......and nothing. So I am living proof of being a non dumper. By the way, having this surgery was a good thing. Even though I can eat everything, and I mean everything, I have more control of how much I consume. It is wonderful to feel like a normal person, and be able to walk away from the table without cleaning my plate. I am losing on the average of 5.83 pounds per week since the surgery. As for the bowel, I did have a problem , but only because I also had my gallbladder removed, but was given a medication to relieve the symptoms. Life is good now..... Best wishes to you....Susan

Susan, Thanks for the input... My cousin also can eat anything she wants, in moderation, but I know those results are only for about half of the people that go through the surgery....... I was just concerned that the surgery might make the Syndrome worse but I don't think so and neither does my Dr. Just wanted some advise... I also had my gallbladder removed..... Congrats on your weight loss and soon hope to be on the loosing side as well.....
